Did you know that Friends of Caldy Nature Park was formed 34 years ago this month in September 1991?

The land had been given to the Council by the housing developers to create a nature park. At 7am on Saturday 30th May 1992, 2 excavators, 2 dump trucks and a bulldozer appeared in the valley and work commenced digging out the pond, the first steps in the long term plan to create valuable wetland areas in the park. Mike O'Kell, who was then Park Ranger, planned the contours of the pond which was dug out of grey clay. An island sanctuary for wildlife was also formed.
