Winter News from CWAC

By Steph H., CWAC Green Space Officer

Although managing the park requires an all year round input, this is the time that we put into action essential autumn and winter activities that prepare the park for the upcoming spring nesting and breeding season.

Over the coming months our efforts will focus on winter pruning and cutting back, rotational cutting of reed-beds, coppicing of trees and scrub as well as all the regular maintenance activities. Managing the habitats in this way is invaluable to support our native wildlife as we continue to face a national biodiversity crisis but also it helps keep the Nature Park an enjoyable place to take a stroll.

All of this is made possible by working together with a great group Friends of Caldy Valley volunteers. There’s always a task to do so if you feel like a new challenge please feel free to enlist; it’s a great way to get fit, meet new people and help maintain this precious community facility. With monthly working parties, everyone is welcome and no previous experience is required as instructions are given on the day.
